Our Ethos

It's very difficult for me to separate what I do, which is to cook from my love of the ocean because that love colours all of my cooking and I've come to realize at the age of 42 that I'm an incurable romantic.

But it's not just the ocean that influences my cooking, it's the fisherman who loves the ocean just as much as I do.

It's also about the frustrations about not always getting things right in the kitchen but that keeps me going.  It's about finding fresh things to eat on the rocks at low tide, it's about the need to get out of the kitchen and just go fishing, it's about a fishing community, a real community, who cares about the lasting effect of what they do..

Even at my age its about learning the hard way and realising that I'm not a super chef after all but you know it's really about the ocean and it's about the pull of the ocean and its about places from long lost childhood summers and distance happiness and a place by the sea we all have in our memories.

SurMer is a personal journey to provide our customers with a nostalgic feeling of being next to the ocean with all its splendour and helping it thrive.

If the whole Swiss population purchased through SurMer, our impact on the oceans would make a difference. We can always hope.
